August 24, 2009Canon Announces Legria HF S11 and Legria HF21 for the UK
Canon announced two new camcorders for the UK — the Legria HF21 and Legria HF S11. Both camcorders have 64GB internal flash, and add a few new tricks, to their predecessor. The two camcorders will be available in September.
In addition to the HF S10, the HF S11 will be one of Canons flagship camcorders. The body design is nearly identical to the HF S10; the new features on the Canon HF S11 are all inside. It features a 'Dynamic Super Range' optical image stabilization system that adds extra stabilizing at the wide angle. For those that don't like the effect, the feature can be turned off.
The Canon HF S11 also offers a new Night Scene mode that automatically adjusts the gain (sensitivity), while leaving the auto shutter alone. The new mode differs from Canon's other night mode, which allows to shutter to automatically adjust to slow speeds.

Furthermore, the Legria HF S11 has an optional new RA-V1 Remote Control Adapter. The adapter fits into the camcorder's accessory shoe and gives you access to a wired LANC terminal. Though the shoe is the same size as the previous Canons, the RA-V1 will work with the HF S11 and the HF21.

The Canon HF 21 is a relatively minor upgrade. The optical zoom is extended to 15x, but the CMOS is smaller, measuring 1/4-inch with a gross pixel count of 3.89-megapixels. These are all the same specs as the current HF20 camcorder.
Prices fot the new camcorders have not been announced in the UK so far. They are, however, confirmed for an early September ship date.
