Canon Legria HF G10
This review is organized into 16 parts
Next: Part 1
Product Tour
Introduction
With the Legria HF G10, Canon’s latest flagship camcorder, the company decided to use a completely different image sensor with a smaller amount of pixels. If you check out the results from our performance testing, you’ll quickly see the change paid off—particularly in low light situations. The only drawback? The HF G10 cannot capture high-resolution still photos.

Product Tour
The HF G10 features a redesigned image sensor, a removable lens cap, and it comes with an HDMI cable. Read More... |
Part 2
Colour & Noise Performance
Canon greatly improved the color accuracy on the HF G10 as compared to last year's Legrias. Noise levels were also better, but not by as large of a margin. Read More... |
Part 3
Motion & Sharpness Performance
Sharpness on the camcorder was a bit worse than its predecessors (only slightly), but motion looked nearly as good. The camcorder also offers an alternative frame rate. Read More... |

Part 4
Low Light Performance
One of the best low light performances we've seen from a consumer camcorder. Results were much improved over last year's HF S21. Read More... |
Part 5
Compression & Media
Uses AVCHD compression and can record at a max bit-rate of 24Mbps. The camcorder also comes with 32GB of built-in memory and two memory card slots. Read More... |
Part 6
Manual Controls
Very extensive set of manual controls and good auto controls as well. The lens ring can only be used for manual focus (and it's great), but the control dial on the back isn't the best system for setting aperture, shutter speed, gain, etc. Read More... |
|
Part 7
Still Features
Still performance took a back seat on the HF G10 in an effort to improve video performance in low light. The camcorder can capture still photos, but sizes are limited to 1920 x 1080. Read More... |
Part 8
Handling & Use
The HF G10 can be complicated with all its controls, but once you figure all the options out the buttons and shortcuts make most settings quickly accessible. Read More... |
Part 9
Playback & Connectivity
The HF G10 has all the major ports—external mic input, USB, HDMI, AV, Component, DC-input, a hot accessory shoe, and a wired remote (LANC) port. Read More... |
|
Part 10
