| Section | The Good | The Bad |
| Product Tour | Automatic lens cover |
Just a 10x zoom (optical) |
| Colour & Noise Performance | Customisable colour settings | performance worse than that of competitors |
| Motion & Sharpness Performance | Very good sharpness-result |
None |
| Low Light Performance | Decent low light colour and noise |
Low light sensitivity was worse than last year's Canons. |
| Compression & Media | 64GB internal flash, 2 SD/SDHC card slots, SDXC compatibility | No standard definition recording option |
| Manual Controls | Good variety of manual controls, auto mode works good with touchscreen | Shutter and aperture can just be set in priority modes |
| Still Features | 8 megapixels stills |
A little too much noise in the stills |
| Handling & Use | Control dial, large LCD screen, and electronic viewfinder | Right side bulky, menu navigation frustrating |
| Playback & Connectivity | Possibility to downconvert HD to SD; LANC terminal | Playback options difficult to figure out; poorly placed HDMI and USB ports |
| Audio & Other Features | Connection for microphone and headphone, audio level controls | No protection for microphone jack |
