Feature upgrades, however, were really good. The electronic viewfinder and the big 3.5-inch touchscreen made for easy framing. For menu navigation and manual image adjustments, the touchscreen did have its drawbacks, but we were won over by spot focus and AF/AE tracking, which both worked well. The camcorder also has a control dial with expanded manual controls, and a second SD/SDHC memory card slot which is also compatible with SDXC cards. Last but not least, the Canon HF S21 offers frame rates of 50i as well as PF25.
The Canon HF S21 is a convincing camcorder with all the features of last year's models and more. If Canon would have significantly improved the video performance, it would certainly be one of the best camcorders of 2010. With all the new flagship models of the competition, this might prove difficult.
