Canon Vixia HF S21 First Impressions Camcorder Review
Previous: Part 3
Manual ControlsNext: Part 5
Handling & UseStill Features Summary
• Similar still features to last year—built-in flash, 8-megapixel photos, dual shot mode.
• The camcorder also has three continuous shooting modes (regular, hi-speed, AE bracketing).
Still Features
The Canon HF S11 had some of the best still image capabilities of all the HD camcorders we tested last year. Since the HF S21 has the same effective pixel count for still images, it should have similar photo performance to last year's models. As for features, the HF S21 has a built-in flash, three continuous shooting modes (including bracketing), and a self-timer—all carry-overs from last year.

| Both the video light and built-in flash will pop-up above the lens when you engage them. |
The HF S21 has a number of photo size options, but the most important one is 3264 x 2456. This is the highest resolution in which photos can be captured with the HF S21 and it translates to roughly 8-megapixels. This is a very good photo resolution for a camcorder. In Dual Shot mode you can capture photos while you are recording videos, but you only have two size options: 3264 x 1840 and 1920 x 1080.
