Conclusion

Canon Legria HF20

Overall the Canon HF20 is a decent camcorder. In our bright light, the sharpness and color accuracy proved excellent. The camcorder has a good number of manual controls and all the ports and connections needed. We loved the the 32GB internal flash memory (with car slot expansion) and the 25p frame rate. The HF20 is a also small and light. That's the good news.

The bad news... we honestly didn't expect the Canon HF20 to perform as good as the HF11, but we didn't expect such a huge drop in low light performance. The low light sensitivity was terrible and the noise levels were too high. Additionally, the Canon HF20 has some issues with handling. Complicated menus and the lack of a clearly labelled 'Easy' menu might leave first-time users confused. Considering Canon's high quality in last few years, the poor performance of the HF20 is a big surprise.
