Conclusion

JVC Everio GZ-HD320

The JVC GZ-HD320 is a compromise. On the downside, it has a rather thin feature set; no microphone port, no alternate frame rates and no optical image stabilisation. But it's compact and well priced at £499.

The performance of this camcorder is also a compromise. It was great in bright light, but the low light performance (pardon the pun) dimmed. The controls are a compromise as well. The Laser Touch control is fussy and feels like a half-realized idea. However, the interface as a whole is straightforward, making it a decent choice for a beginner with aspirations of learning the ins and outs of videography.
