Part 1

Product Tour Summary | • JVC's implementation of a back-illuminated CMOS sensor did an incredible job improving the low light performance on the GZ-HM1. • The lens has a 10x zoom and its automatic cover opens and closes when the camera is turned on and off. • The HM1's silver paint job is its only significant body design difference to last year's GZ-HM400. | Introduction (Page 2 of 17) Colour & Noise Performance |

p.   p. If you just glance over the specs on the GZ-HM1, it may look like the camcorder has the same lens and sensor combination as its predecessor, the JVC GZ-HM400. While this is mostly true—the lens and sensor are the same size—JVC has incorporated new technology on the GZ-HM1 in the form of a back-illuminated CMOS sensor. This repositioning of the sensor is something that numerous other manufacturers have been incorporating over the past couple of years, and it is said to result in better low light performance and a cleaner video image (which is definitely the case with the GZ-HM1).
