Conclusion

JVC GZ-X900

Even though the JVC GZ-X900 scored well in most of the bright light testing, we walked away from this review disappointed. Our primary complaint was the low light performances. Even in 'not so good' lighting conditions (which would generously describe most home movies), the video was dark and noisy.  We also expected much from the X900's still images, considering the high pixel count, but found them wanting for sharpness.

Despite these deficiencies, the GZ-X900 has a lot of goodies. First and foremost, the camcorder features a wide range of manual settings, including focus, shutter and exposure for excellent adjustments. Secondly, in bright light the X900 produced one of the sharpest pictures we've seen in some time. If you're the rare camcorder owner who plans only daytime shoots, the X900 would serve you exceedingly well.

If it weren't for the poor low light performance, the JVC GZ-X900 could be a top-player. It's comfortable to hold and fun to use. Unfortunately, it's impossible for us to recommend the GZ-X900. Sorry, folks.
